My high school days are long past, but I remember the stress of walking into school and realizing there was a test that I hadn’t studied for. I also remember the relief I felt when a friend shared their notes for me to look at before class. Poll greeters are like that friend who lets you look at their highlighted notes before the teacher tells you to put your books away.
What do Poll Greeters do?
In many cases, voters head to the polls without knowing all of the races or propositions that will be on their ballot. As a result, midterm elections typically have a high rate of “voter roll-off.” This is when someone votes for the race at the top of the ballot, but skips the races further down the ballot for local elections.
That’s where poll greeters come in. Poll greeters are volunteers outside of polling sites who share information about candidates that voters can take with them when they vote – like having notes during a quiz.
Rowan Democrats want to make sure every voter knows about the fantastic Democratic candidates running for local offices, so we’re signing up volunteers who can be poll greeters at voting sites across the county.
How you can help
RCDP needs a lot of poll greeters in Rowan County to cover early voting and Election Day. We have three early voting sites, which will each be open for 14 days. On Election Day, we want to have poll greeters at 35 precincts throughout the county.
Details will be added soon. Contact us at rowandems@protonmail.com
