Check Your Voter Registration
If you’re not sure whether you’re registered to vote, you can check online using the North Carolina State Board of Elections Voter Search Tool.
If you need to update your voter registration, the North Carolina State Board of Elections has information about how to update your voter registration online or in person.
Register To Vote
Online: You can register to vote online through the North Carolina DMV.
In person: You can also register to vote in person at a DMV office or at one of the agencies listed on the North Carolina State Board of Elections’ website. In addition, you can visit the Rowan County Democratic Party’s office at 1504 W. Innes St. and fill out your application.
By mail: You can also mail in your voter registration application by using this downloadable application from the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
During early voting: You can also register to vote during early voting. This is known as “same day registration.” Voters can also update their voter registration information during this time.
Voter ID
All North Carolina voters must show a photo ID to vote. Check out a full list of acceptable voter ID options from the North Carolina Democratic Party.
You can get a free voter ID at the Rowan County Board of Elections.
2026 Primary Absentee Ballots
You can now apply for an absentee ballot for the 2026 primary election. Applications must be received by Tuesday, February 17 at 5:00 pm. You can apply for an absentee ballot by:
- Submitting a request through the NC Absentee Ballot Portal
- Download and print the 2026 NC Absentee Ballot Request Form
- You can mail or drop off this form at the Rowan County Board of Elections at 1935 Jake Alexander Blvd W, Salisbury, NC 28147
The deadline to return your completed absentee ballot is Tuesday, March 3 by 7:30 pm.
