About Ray:

I never sought the burdens of public office. My life had been one of steady work, quiet faith, and trust in the institutions handed down by those who came before. Yet there are seasons in the life of a free people when silence becomes a form of surrender, and when ordinary citizens must rise to meet extraordinary trials. I believe such a season is upon us. As national tensions strain the constitutional order we hold dear, I have come to see that the defense of democracy must begin not in distant capitals, but in the humble chambers of local government where the people’s will is closest to its source.

County commissioners shape the ground upon which daily life is built—our schools, our lands, our
waters, our safety, and the stewardship of the public trust. To me, these duties echo the old truth that
government derives its just powers from the consent of the governed, and that such consent must be
guarded with vigilance.

I am guided by Principles of Belief:
• Strong counties uphold a strong republic
• Education is the great ladder of opportunity
• Clean water and clean air are sacred trusts
• Honest governance is the lifeblood of a stable economy
• Science and public health deserve respect
• Rights and freedoms must be defended
• Threats from within demand courage from within.

And by Principles of Thinking:
• There is no such thing as a free lunch — every public act bears a cost
• Everything must go somewhere — consequences cannot be wished away
• Everything is related to everything else — governance is a living system
• Nature knows best — lasting solutions honor natural order.

Thus, with humility and resolve, I step forward to serve you and ask for your support—not for ambition,
but for duty—believing that the preservation of American values begins here, with us, in Rowan County,
with those willing to stand firm when the times demand it. Join me in this battle for we are “Better
