High Point Mayor Cyril Jefferson will give U.S. Rep. Addison McDowell a run for his money in November’s general election. Christine Walczyk won the primary for the NC Court of Appeals, seat 03 and moves on to the general election. Roy Cooper is officially our Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. With all the unopposed Democratic candidates waiting in the wings for the general election, things are ready to get exciting!
Salisbury Post – 3/4/26 – On Tuesday, Jefferson said that he was just getting started.
“We have the next eight months to make the case for why we can bring better leadership to the district,”
Jefferson said. “We are feeling excited, grateful for all the people invovled for making this happen and ready for what comes next.” Jefferson indicated on Tuesday that he believes things are different now than they were two years ago when Democrats did not even field a candidate.
“The landscape is different,” Jefferson said. “Two years ago, we had a country who thought they were getting a change candidate (Donald Trump). He was going to fix the economy and lower prices and not get into forever wars and rid the government of corruption. He has done the exact opposite of that.”
Jefferson said that he is proud of the work he has done in High Point as its chief executive and before that as a member of the council but he acknowledged that it is a big district with varying interests.
However, he wants to bring the “same energy, same will and inspiration” that he brought to High Point to the people of District 6. Trending
