Don’t miss this special event at the Rowan County Democratic Party’s December 13th Breakfast as guest speaker, NC Supreme Court Associate Justice Anita Earls, speaks to what is needed to defend our courts, our maps, and justice in NC. Breakfast begins at 10:00 am and doors will open at 9:30 am at the RCDP Headquarters, 1504 West Innes Street, Salisbury, NC 28144.
Justice Earls is up for re-election to the NC Supreme Court in 2026 after having served since her election in 2018 as an Associate Justice on the Court. Following law school, in January 1988 Anita joined the firm of Ferguson, Stein, Watt, Wallas, Adkins & Gresham in Charlotte, NC. In private practice, she litigated in state and federal courts, handing family law, criminal defense, personal injury, voting rights, police misconduct, school desegregation, and employment discrimination cases.
Justice Earls was appointed by President Clinton in 1998 to serve as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. From 2000 to 2003, she directed the Voting Rights Project at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. Returning to NC in 2003, she joined Julius Chambers at the UNC Center for Civil Rights as Director of Advocacy.
In 2007 Justice Earls founded the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, a non-profit legal advocacy organization and served as its Executive Director for ten years. While there she litigated voting rights and other civil rights cases.
Justice Earls has taught at the University of Maryland and the University of North Carolina law schools, and in the African and African-American Studies Department at Duke University. She is admitted to practice in North Carolina, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
As we learned last spring from NC Chair Anderson Clayton, the NC Democratic Party has laid out a specific plan for moving toward ending partisan gerrymandering. Re-electing Justice Earls is an important step in this process for representing all of the people in our purple state.
