The newly formed Rowan County Democratic Hispanic Caucus will meet on the last Saturday each month at 10 a.m. in the Rowan Democratic Party Headquarters at 1504 West Innes Street. The NC Democratic Party Hispanic Caucus is dedicated to mobilizing the Latino community across the state. Our goal is to ensure that every eligible Latino voter is registered, informed, and empowered to make their voice heard.

ROWAN COUNTY — The North Carolina Democratic Party Hispanic Caucus announced a new chapter to serve Rowan County. The chapter headed by Elia Gegorek offers a meeting space for Hispanic people to organize around issues that are important to them.

Chair of the North Carolina Democratic Party Hispanic Caucus and Rowan County local Adrian Maldonado has been working with the statewide board to open chapters of the Hispanic Caucus around the state.

“We’ve launched a few chapters across the state as well, mainly because of what we’ve been hearing on the ground and the passion from local community activists, small business owners and everyday folks and individuals. Federal or state level policies that impact people’s everyday lives have definitely riled folks up, and a lot of folks are looking for a vehicle to utilize that passion,” Maldonado said. “Rowan County felt like a natural next step because there is a Latino organizing group with a growing base here that’s been working with the local Democratic party.”

With the upcoming general election only 61 days away, fewer until early voting, Maldonado emphasized that the Rowan County chapter and others will be focused on voter outreach.

“Definitely the biggest priority is the upcoming election, so a focus is registering voters and doing voter education. They also want to focus on large scale distribution of voter materials so the people in our community are aware of who they are voting for and that they can make an educated choice,” Maldonado said.

Under the leadership of Gegorek and the newly selected local board, the group will meet on the last Saturday each month at 10 a.m. in the Rowan Democratic Party Headquarters at 1504 West Innes Street. Gregorek is excited about the momentum the chapter currently has.

“The energy behind this launch shows just how ready our community is to make a difference,” Gegorek said. “From writing postcards to organizing at the polls, we are turning enthusiasm into real civic power. This chapter is a starting line, and we’re just getting warmed up.”
