Data centers continue to be a big topic, and we’ve got two different projects in the works, one in the City of Salisbury and one on Long Ferry Road in the northern end of the county near I-85. Both are two very different types of data centers. This is an update on the one proposed for Salisbury and the City of Salisbury’s reply to residents. There is no recent update as regards the county site from the Rowan County Commissioners.
One potential data center development is within the City of Salisbury. Currently, the Salisbury City Council first has to pass a text amendment that would lay out regulations for how data centers can operate within the city limits before the developers can move forward with their planned data center facility.
People care about this issue, and residents have been showing up to share questions and concerns at Planning Board and City Council meetings. In response, the City of Salisbury has created a video series that answers questions about fire safety, water usage, and economic impact as well as an information site to provide additional information and answer resident questions.
