President Trump is attempting to rewrite history in his favor by belittling past presidents. The most recent examples are the plaques that he has placed under the portraits of his predecessors. Instead of respect for the office, he has written subjective information and insults under the presidents he does not like. Under President Obama’s photo, he writes that he is the most divisive political figure in American history and that he spied on him during the campaign. His disrespect for President Biden is also evident. Instead of his portrait, he has a photo of an autopen. He calls Biden the worst president ever among other derogatory names. Other writings on the plaques address the Clintons and are filled with his conspiracy theories.

It has been said that belittling is an attempt to build up a failing ego. It is not a good trait for a leader.

President Trump may try to paint himself as a successful, great president by attacking others but even his supporters are seeing the results of his lack of empathy and failed policies. For President Trump, the writing is on the wall or it may be on his plaque. I believe that the American people and our democracy will see through his insincerity and history will proclaim the truth.
