Meet NC House candidates, Sabrina Harris, Scott Huffman, and Johnnie Jones, on Tuesday, July 7, at Rowan Public Library – South, 920 Kimball Road, China Grove, NC. The doors will open at 5:00 pm for refreshments and conversation and the meeting will begin at 5:30 pm.
Rowan County is divided into three districts, 76, 77, and 83, for the NC House of Representatives. Open to all residents of Rowan County, hosts for the event are Rowan County Democratic organized precincts Bradshaw, China Grove, and Landis. You do not have to be a registered Democrat or live in these precincts to attend this informative meeting.
Sabrina Harris, District 77, which includes parts of western Rowan and all of Davie and Yadkin counties, is a former resident of Rowan County and was elected and served on the Rowan-Salisbury School Board before her family’s move to Davie County and their family homestead. Harris loves her rural life and wants to protect the land and natural resources of not only Davie County, but West Rowan, and Yadkin County as well. Her platform, that is built on the needs of her district, includes funding for mental health and substance abuse in rural areas, Public Education (including support staff), as well as support for small businesses and fair property taxes. Harris describes herself as a t”ransparent, resilient, innovator thinking, hardworking, woman with a proven track record of being willing to listen to understand.”
Scott Huffman, District 76, is a dad, a Navy veteran, and a working professional in information technology and cybersecurity. He is a longtime community advocate who believes public service should be about showing up, listening, and working for everyday people. Scott is committed to fighting for working families, fair wages, affordable healthcare, strong public schools, and respect for teachers and public employees. He supports voting rights, ending gerrymandering, protecting women’s reproductive freedom, addressing climate change, advancing equality, supporting veterans, improving public safety, humane immigration reform, criminal justice reform, and ensuring every child has a fair shot at a better future through our public schools. District 76 includes most of Rowan County.
Johnnie Jones, new Democratic candidate for District 83, was recently appointed by a joint Rowan and Cabarrus committee after the original candidate to file stepped down. Jones is ready to serve the people of District 83 that includes parts of Rowan County and Cabarrus. Jones described himself as “a simple, hard-working guy” that retired from the film and motorsports industries five years ago. A strong family man, Jones is concerned about needs that affect working folks and is currently building a platform off three important questions from future constituents: Are you spending more to get less? Are data centers the big, ‘magic’ lie that’s being fed to everyone? Are school vouchers a threat to public education? Come talk with Johnnie and hear his answers and how he hopes to earn your vote.
