Meet our newest Democratic candidate for NC House District 83, Johnnie Jones. A recent addition to our Rowan Democratic slate of candidates, Jones was recently appointed by a joint Rowan and Cabarrus committee after the original candidate to file stepped down. Jones is ready to serve the people of District 83 that includes parts of Rowan County and Cabarrus.

Hello my friends,

I’m Johnnie Jones, your Rowan and Cabarrus candidate for NC House District 83. I’m a simple, hard-working guy that retired from the film and motorsports industries five years ago to take care of my family. I’m married to the most wonderful woman in the world; Lisa Jones is my North Star and everything I never knew I needed until we met 34 years ago. I have a son and daughter, and I’ve been blessed with 4 granddaughters named Vivan, Zoey, Alexa, and Bella. We’re a large family! There are too many of us to even begin to mention.

Let me start off saying I know this is going to be a very uphill race, but I promise I have a new gear for every hill that they put in front of us.

When I say ‘us’, I mean US! I’m not running for this job for myself, I’m doing this for every person in Cabarrus and Rowan Counties. Here’s a bit about my platform:

1. Are you spending more to get less?
I know that we’re all facing economic hardships right now – and I’m not going to tell you there is a quick fix for it, because there’s not. What I will say is that the current Republican supermajority in the North Carolina Senate and House have done little to nothing to address it. In office, I will not help pass bills that put hardships on my constituents. Period.

2. Data centers are the big, ‘magic’ lie that’s being fed to everyone.
The companies running them deplete water systems and deforest every acre of land they buy. They’re given power subsidies to lower their rates – all while the so-called leaders in the NC General Assembly allow public rates to keep increasing. It’s unbelievable, and needs to be halted and reviewed now.

3. School vouchers.
School vouchers are one of the biggest threats to our public education. They’re a scam – basically stealing money from the North Carolina public school system and giving it, largely, to the most privileged going to private schools. Those private schools don’t even have to follow the same guidelines as the NC public schools – and it needs to stop. In office, I’ll protect our schools and pass legislation to make sure our classrooms are properly funded.

Well, that’s me. I’m looking forward to meeting with you and earning your vote as we approach Election Day!

Sincerely, Johnnie Jones
