Any registered voter may request, receive, and vote a mail-in absentee ballot.
No special circumstance or reason is needed.
Registered voters in North Carolina must request an absentee ballot with an official N.C. Absentee Ballot Request Form.
For the 2024 General Election, ballots will be mailed from the Rowan County Board of Elections beginning on September 6th.
The Deadline to Request your Absentee Primary Ballot by Mail is Oct. 29th, 2024 at 5 PM.
Ballots must be received at your county board of elections office by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day. Absentee ballots that arrive at the county board of elections office after Election Day will not be counted.
Registered voters in North Carolina must request an absentee ballot with an official N.C. Absentee Ballot Request Form. There are two ways to access and submit the form:
- Online:
- “Option 1 – Request an Absentee Ballot” at the N.C. Absentee Ballot Portal.
- On paper:
- 2024 N.C. Absentee Ballot Request Form in English (PDF).
- 2024 N.C. Absentee Ballot Request Form in Spanish (PDF).
- After completing, submit the form to your county board of elections or in person or by mail via the U.S. Postal Service, DHL, FedEx, or UPS.
Track your absentee-by-mail ballot through the mail: Once you have requested your absentee ballot, you can track its status from printed to accepted by signing up online for status notifications through BallotTrax. BallotTrax will be available 30 days prior to each election in 2024.
Once you receive your absentee ballot, follow the directions and return your ballot as specified in the directions by mail or eligible individuals in North Carolina may cast an absentee ballot in person during the One Stop/Early Voting period.
