Clearly the vast majority of undocumented immigrants come to America not to pillage our nation, but to work and provide for their families. In the process it is apparent that they have also provided financial resources that serve to help many other American citizens besides themselves.

It is often said that with the use of statistics virtually anything can be proven, whether it is true or not. This statement implies that there are instances in which statistics can and do reveal the truth.

Elon Musk has repeatedly claimed that undocumented immigrants have siphoned off millions of dollars from the Social Security system. This is not true. In fact, in the year 2022, undocumented immigrants paid $96.7 billion in federal, state and local taxes. More than a third of the tax dollars paid by undocumented immigrants go to federal programs from which they are legally barred from receiving any benefits. This includes $25.7 billion in Social Security taxes, $6.4 billion in Medicare taxes and $1.8 billion in unemployment insurance taxes.

Instead of being a burden to American taxpayers, taxes paid by undocumented immigrants have served to subsidize the American tax system. This is also true as well for revenue payments made to state governments. For example, in 2022 six of our larger states received more than $1 billion in tax revenue payments from undocumented immigrants. Those states are California ($8.5 billion), Texas ($4.9 billion), New York ($3.1 billion), Florida ($1.8 billion), Illinois ($1.5 billion) and New Jersey ($1.3 billion). Even North Carolina received $692.2 million in additional revenue from undocumented taxpayers.

Clearly the vast majority of undocumented immigrants come to America not to pillage our nation, but to work and provide for their families. In the process it is apparent that they have also provided financial resources that serve to help many other American citizens besides themselves.
