Whatever happens, with Griffin refusing to concede his lost, voters on the Griffin List need to go ahead and update their voter file – NOW, rather than later. Join NC Democrats making calls to these voters to explain what’s going on and how to “cure” their ballots. Volunteer to help at: https://www.mobilize.us/ncdems/event/750743/

The fact that this case only affects the voters Griffin chose and no other elected offices or all voters across the state should make you skeptical about the merits of his case. Even Republicans are calling for him to concede and accept his lose in the 2024 NC Supreme Court Election.

April 5 update: how voters can update their voter file

On April 4, 2025, the North Carolina Court of Appeals sided with Griffin’s argument that over 65,000 votes should be tossed out – including those of military members serving overseas.

Votes from individuals on the Griffin List who do not update their voter file (or, in the case of military or other overseas voters, provide a copy of a photo ID) will not be counted.

The court order, which is not yet in effect, would give voters on the Griffin List 15 days to address deficiencies that would allow their votes to count. The court’s ruling will be appealed.

Regardless, voters on the Griffin List should update their voter file to ensure their votes count in future elections.

According to an April 4 statement from the NC Board of Elections:

“Any voter who is concerned that their voter registration information is incomplete or is not up to date should submit an updated voter registration form…. Any voter who has a license from the DMV can go to payments.ncdot.gov to fill out a voter registration application. If you’re already registered, submitting this information will merely update your existing voter registration. You don’t need to create a special account with the DMV. You can select “Continue as Guest” on the DMV’s website and proceed directly to submitting your voter registration.”

What is the Griffin List?

A list of 60,273 legal North Carolina voters – these are registered voters who showed ID to early vote in the November 2024 election – whose votes Jefferson Griffin wants to not be counted. Griffin lost a close election for the North Carolina Supreme Court, confirmed via two recounts. He then sued the North Carolina State Board of Elections to have the 60,273 votes nullified.

Who is on the Griffin List?

Registered voters who voted in November 2024 who do not have their driver’s license number or last four of their social security numbers in their voter file. Griffin claims these voters are therefore ineligible to vote. Many of these voters have been registered to vote in NC for years and have voted in multiple elections without issue.

Are they ineligible?

No, not according to the North Carolina State Board of Elections or state law. Even if a voter does not have a driver’s license or social security number in their voter file – which could be due to a clerical error in the NC Division of Motor Vehicles or Social Security Administration databases – they are entitled to vote if they show a valid ID. All voters on the Griffin List showed an ID to vote.

What is the source of data for the Griffin List?

All names on the Griffin List come from complaints Griffin filed with all 100 NC counties’ Boards of Election. These data are publicly available. To make the data easier to search, they have been added to the search tool below.

What if my name doesn’t appear on this list?

It means you’re not one of the voters being challenged in this race. However, it’s a great idea to make sure your voter file is up to date and to share this with your neighbors.
