The night of March 19th, concerned residents of North Carolina’s 6th Congressional district gathered in Lexington for the first physical town hall held in-district. While Rep. Addison McDowell allegedly held a telephone town hall featuring few opportunities to comment and even less information the day prior according to the few able to attend, citizens from Cabarrus to Guilford County came together to speak and be heard.
(Rep. McDowell declined to attend or send a confirmation or denial, although he did send a staffer who filmed the event without speaking to anyone.)
Attendees heard from Scott Huffman, a former Congressional candidate and veteran, NCDP chair Anderson Clayton, former teachers and principals, familiar faces like Eva Knight, activists, former Congressional candidate and RCDP third vice-chair Andy Craighill-Middleton, NC Disability Caucus chair Pamela McAfee, and even the Davidson County Libertarian Party chair.
The crowd was engaged, civil, and brought a range of discussion topics, from veterans’ healthcare and public school funding to mental health supports, disability issues, Medicaid funding, LGBTQ+ issues, and more. We’ve attached photos and videos from some of the event below:
