Dr. Childs is running for the seat being vacated by our current RSS Board Chair Dr. Alisha Byrd-Clark. (Dr. Byrd-Clark is our 2024 Democratic candidate for the NC House of Representatives, District 76.) Dr. Childs gave a short introduction of herself on July 23 at RCDP Headquarters and provided details about her expertise and the skills and values she will bring to the Rowan-Salisbury School Board if elected.

Dr. Rebecca Childs is a bilingual educator with 15 years of experience teaching and leading in schools locally and abroad. She has promoted educational excellence throughout her career, and she is running for the Board of Education to partner with students, families, and fellow educators to create equitable experiences and outstanding outcomes for all students in Rowan-Salisbury Schools.
Dr. Childs is an active member of the Isenberg PTA and a Tier 2 volunteer with Communities In Schools Rowan County. She also served as a member of City of Salisbury’s Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, Forward 2040.
Dr. Childs earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California, her Master’s Degree in Education from Framingham State University, and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Western Carolina University. She is also a licensed real estate broker and currently serves as Program Manager for the real estate and construction trade programs at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
Dr. Childs and her husband are proud parents of 1st and 5th graders at Isenberg Elementary.
Dr. Childs is running for the seat being vacated by Dr. Alisha Byrd-Clark who is now running for the NC House of Representatives, District 76. Also at the filing were East Spencer Alderman Shawn Rush, Dottie Hoy, Michael Stringer, and Chair Geoffrey Hoy, RCDP.
