“There is a quote attributed to Lenin which goes like this, ‘There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen.’ I think if you change weeks to days, you have a description of the last few days. …There is much work to do and very little time in which to do it. So, get busy and redouble your efforts: volunteer, contribute, spread the word, and do whatever else you can.”

There is a quote attributed to Lenin which goes like this, “There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen.”  I think if you change weeks to days, you have a description of the last few days. My, how things have changed. I personally went from anxiousness about the November election to a positive feeling of hope.

I think for most Democrats the time between the debate in late June to the announcement by President Biden last Sunday was a time of agonizing concern and soul searching. Most of us dearly love Joe Biden and are aware of his spectacular success over the last three- and one-half years, but the debate showed the President in an unfavorable light. We were all looking for a way forward and now we have it.

Kamala Harris in these last few days has already shown herself to be a quality and forceful candidate. She knows her stuff and has already taken Trump to task. I for one am fully behind Kamala.

I feel very positive about things in the presidential race, but there is one warning, and that is the fact that we haven’t won anything yet. We must not slip into complacency. There is much work to do and very little time in which to do it. So, get busy and redouble your efforts: volunteer, contribute, spread the word, and do whatever else you can.

Also, do not forget all of the down ballot races. They are also very important. A president can’t do it alone. Support Allison Riggs for Supreme Court of North Carolina, Josh Stein for Governor, Jeff Jackson for Attorney General, and Mo Green for Superintendent of Public Instruction among others. Remember to support Democrats for the legislature, both in the House and the Senate.

Remember, there is much work to do, so let’s roll up our sleeves and get to it.
