On Sunday, July 21, 2024, President Joe Biden announced his decision to step down as the Democratic Presidential Candidate for 2024 and has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.
Statements from Democrats in leadership roles followed:
President Biden – “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
NC Democratic Party – “North Carolina Democrats are deeply thankful to President Biden for his lifetime of service.
During his administration, President Biden has made historic investments in people – from our jobs, to our health care, to our infrastructure – by being the champion of our Democratic belief that Americans deserve to live and thrive in every community.”
Governor Roy Cooper – “Kamala Harris should be the next President of the United States. I’ve known Vice President Harris going back to our days as Attorneys General, and she has what it takes to defeat Donald Trump and lead our country thoughtfully and with integrity. I look forward to campaigning for her as we work to win North Carolina up and down the ticket this November.”
