Pat Bullard continues the conversation about public education and the lack of substantial Republican support; “I used to be an unaffiliated voter until I saw so little attention paid to the real issues of the people by the gop.” The NC Republican Party continues to stall fully funding public schools.

The question remains about adequately funding public education. Recent coverage in the Post – On 3-20 Rev. Bruner sent forth an invitation to a public education forum, ‘Make your vote count’, the Ask us column 3-22 about Leandro, and 3-23, ‘Order in Leandro’. The underlying truth is that public education always gets forgotten for adequate funding. Only public education is an equal education opportunity.

Do charter, private or religious schools provide transportation, food services, education for all children no matter the problem, handicap, etc.? Do they meet the same standards required of public schools?  

GOP leaders claim they are providing for all education, yet the funds sent the way of charter, private and religious schools for vouchers takes away money from public education. It has long been known that too many counties are simply unable to fund their share for public education and that was the cause behind Leandro. 

And teacher pay is and always has been lacking. Teachers are  most important because they  mold our children into productive citizens. Have you compared teacher pay to that of other professions with equal training? And they don’t have the huge responsibility of educating our children.

Yes, a committee is holding hearings on education, but I don’t trust that gop led endeavors will ever give a fair shake to public education. I used to be an unaffiliated voter until I saw so little attention paid to the real issues of the people by the gop. WE must act now to save and help to thrive public education for the sake of our children and this nation.
